Classroom extension to a small village school
This school extension project provides an additional two classrooms to accommodate the increasing numbers of children wanting to attend this popular and successful village school. Conceived and built as a stand-alone building, the additional accommodation is located at the rear of the existing school on an awkward triangular shaped site.
The new classrooms are split either side of a generous, top-lit entrance hall, which doubles up as an additional teaching space when required. One classroom is oriented south and is built entirely from blue brick, while the other is timber-clad and extends west out towards the playground. Behind the extension to the south, is a simple grass circle, cut in the slope of the site, which forms an external teaching space in the summer.
