Silversmith’s studio in a rural setting
In this project we were keen to explore a different way of interpreting a very rural vernacular. This simple, two-storey building, set deep in rural West Sussex, provides new studio and study spaces for a silversmith and enameller.
The building is intersected by an old stone wall, which extends to create two new courtyard spaces between the new and old buildings. On either side of the wall the formal front garden of the existing house is dividing from a new brick terrace that overlooks the orchard to the west. The building is clad in rough-sawn green oak horizontal boards, which are set into a grid of panels.
