New summerhouse extension within the grounds of Willow House

We returned to Willow House in 2012 to add a contemporary garden room extension set within the grounds of the original house that we refurbished back in 2003. The new building forms an extension to the existing garage annexe, built as part of our previous work, and echoes the white-rendered, concrete-frame form of the Grade II* Listed 1930s modernist house.

The simple, one-room extension has large glazed openings that pull back to open up the space, directly connecting it to the surrounding garden. The new space is top-lit by an opaque lightbox formed in planar glazing, which sits above the rear of the space, allowing natural light to filter down, whilst maintaining a cool environment in which to grow houseplants.
